Poundland Halloween light-up ghost and pumpkin recalled over 'serious safety risk'

Poundland is recalling two Halloween decorations over safety fears. The light-up ghost and pumpkin carry a "high risk of injuries and choking due to easy access to button batteries", according to a notice on the Government's website.

The items have a product code of 536659 and were sold in store from October 1. The retailer has posted a warning notice on its website asking shoppers to return the affected products to store for a full refund, the MEN reports.

It said: "Poundland are recalling the above products due to serious safety risk and potential injury due to the battery compartment of the product not being adequately secured which can expose the button cell batteries. The button batteries may be placed in the mouth and swallowed, presenting a choking hazard for young children and causing damage to the gastrointestinal tract.

"If you have bought the above products, do not use them. Instead return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund. No receipt is required."

The high street chain added: "We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused. However, the safety and confidence of our consumers and the quality of our products is at the heart of everything we do."

If you have any questions you can email Poundland on customer.relations@poundland.co.uk. Alternatively, the customer helpline is 0333 234 1877 (UK).
