Award-winning pizza joint Dusty's Pizza is offering free pizza kits to people and families across South Wales who are struggling to put food on the table as a result of the current financial crisis rippling throughout the country. Announcing the news on its social media on Friday, 20 May, the pizzeria owned by Deb and Phill Lewis, whose kits were popular throughout lockdown, is hoping that "through this initiative we can bring a little positivity to you and yours!"

We spoke to people in Cardiff about ow they are coping with the ever-rising cost of living and the one thing they’ve stopped buying.

"Households across the country are suffering from the affects of rising living more and more. Food poverty and an inability to access food provision is on the rise, especially in families. We are hearing more and more in work and at the school gates that folks are going without food for a significant proportion of the week and that families are struggling to feed their children or themselves to ensure their kids can eat."
The popular pizza spot, which was created in 2014 and run out of a van initially, went on to say: "As an independent business we want to use our platform for good and to support our local community and with that we are offering our pizza kit FOR FREE to those who are struggling financially. If you or your family are finding it difficult to put food on the table, have a meal together, access food provision or simply want a much needed pick me up then please come and get a kit. No questions asked, no judgements, no obligation to buy anything else... just enjoy."
The kit will include two pizza bases, mozzaerlla cheese and tomato sauce with instructions on how to recreate Dusty's pizza at home and will be offered on a first come first serve basis in order to keep a close watch on numbers. Since they broke the news on social media, Phill and Deb have had an influx of messages of support from people who would like to do their part and donate money towards making the kits available to as many people who need them as possible. As a result of this, Dusty's is soon hoping to add an option to its website where people can 'pay it forward'. To collect a pizza kit visit Dusty's on Papermill Road in Canton.
