This potty-mouthed parrot shouts abuse at her owners as they are forced to lock her up at mealtimes - after she was caught on camera swiping and eating a sausage from their pan. Elaine Johnson, 49, was relaxing in the living room of her York home after laying out the ingredients to make tea for her daughter Abigail Rowlends, 23.
The mum-of-three wanted to make sure that her daughter's favourite dinner of sausage, mash and beans would be ready by the time the paediatric nurse arrived home 'exhausted' after a 13-hour shift. However, when the NHS nurse went to run a bath she failed to notice that 'mischievous' African Grey parrot 'Polly Darton' had sailed silently through the door and into the kitchen behind her.
Hilarious footage shows how she discovered the cheeky 'high maintenance' parrot perched on her kitchen-top holding the coveted posh meat sausage in one claw and happily biting chunks out of it. The sausage heist forced the family to take extra measures to protect their dinner by keeping the pesky pet in a cage during mealtimes, which she has to be sent to 'kicking and screaming'.
The bird has instead taken to squawking foul-mouthed abuse at her owners as she watches them enjoy their meals from afar - shouting 'come on, you silly b****. Step up, p*** flaps' and also 'fat b******s'.
Elaine, from York, said: "I was shocked to see it [the sausage theft]. I didn't even hear her go in the kitchen - she was silent. It was like mission impossible. She let herself out behind me without me noticing. It was funny because there were cheap Irish sausages in the pan, and one really nice gluten free, pure-meat sausage.
"She didn't touch any of the cheap ones. I thought, 'The damn cheek of it - the best sausage'. She's very high maintenance. I was trying to decide whether I should wrestle her to get the sausage off her. But you've got to be quick, otherwise they fly off, and you'll never see the sausage again. I was just crying and laughing - it was just too funny."
In an attempt to keep the bird away from the kitchen, Elaine made sure that the pet was shut in the living room - a safe distance away from the alluring aroma of the only pure-meat sausage in the pan. So Elaine was shocked when, seconds later, she turned around and saw her beloved bird sitting with her bottom on the chopping board, alternating between gobbling up her newfound snack and throwing unwanted pieces on the kitchen floor.
In an attempt to save the meaty treat from further destruction, Elaine went to snatch the sausage from Polly Darton's grasp. Instead, the thieving bird dropped the stolen snack on the ground, dive-bombed to the floor to pick it up and flew to the top of the kitchen cupboard, where she could eat in peace.
Hard-working daughter Abigail, who arrived home moments later, admitted that she would expect nothing less from the family pet. Abigail said: "My favourite tea is sausage and mash, and I'd had a particularly busy shift.
"My mum was getting these nice posh sausages and hot mash ready, but no - Polly decided to tuck in. So I was left with beans on toast. It was very disappointing. Polly is the princess of the house, and I would expect nothing less than her to want that. But I don't mind. She probably had a really hard day in the house herself getting pampered."
Since the sausage heist, the family have taken extra measures to protect their dinner by keeping the parrot in a cage during mealtimes, which she has to be sent to 'kicking and screaming'.
Polly Darton now gets revenge by squawking abuse at her owners as she watches them enjoy their meals from afar. Elaine said: "She doesn't like to be in the cage. She gets a bit bitey, [and] you have to pin her down kicking and screaming. She sits in the cage saying, 'Come on, you silly b**ch. Step up, p*ss flaps'.
"When I'm in meetings and trying to talk to doctors and social workers and God knows what, I have to lock myself in a little room in the corner of the house. I don't trust what she'll say. It's not professional." The video of Polly Darton enjoying a home-cooked meal has racked up more than 5,000 likes, comments and shares on TikTok.
