'Potential sighting' of missing Scots dad who disappeared almost two weeks ago

Police have confirmed there has been a 'possible sighting' of a missing Scots dad who disappeared nearly two weeks ago.

Harry MacDonald was last seen in Portree on the Isle of Skye at around 10am on Wednesday, September 21. Since then, a large-scale search effort has been launched in a bid to trace the 59-year-old, as worries mount for his welfare.

Harry's daughter, Jennifer, has taken to Facebook to ask anyone with any information on her dad's whereabouts to get in touch. And over the weekend, Western Isles, Skye and Lochaber coastguard teams worked with officers and mountain rescue teams to hunt through derelict abandoned buildings, grassy hillsides and cliff edges as part of the probe.

Now a sighting of Harry has been reported in the Peinmore area near Portree. It is believed to have been made at around 4.30pm on Monday, September 19.

Locals are being urged to have a look through their sheds and outbuildings for any signs that Harry may have taken shelter there, and are asking drivers to review dash-cam footage on the days he was potentially spotted.

Harry is described as white, 6ft 2ins in height, with white/grey receding hair and dark, bushy eyebrows. He was wearing a navy blue hoodie, blue jeans, black walking boots and a red sports watch when he disappeared.

Harry left his dog with a family member before he was reported missing and said he was going on a walk. He is originally from Tongue in the Highlands but has been living in Portree in recent years.

Chief Inspector Alasdair MacLeod said: “As time passes we are growing increasingly concerned for the welfare of Harry. We are carrying out extensive searches and reviewing CCTV in an effort to find him.

“I would ask residents in the Portree area to check their sheds and outbuildings for any signs that he may have taken shelter there.

“I would also ask motorists to check their dash-cam footage if you were travelling between Portree and the junction into Peinmore between 4.45pm on Sunday, 18 September and 4.55pm on Monday, 19 September. You may have captured something that could assist our investigation.

"If you have any information which could assist with our enquiries, please contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 2186 of Wednesday, 21 September, 2022.”
