Potential Djed Spence replacement 'likely' to be granted Nottingham Forest transfer

Nottingham Forest pair Braian Ojeda and Richie Laryea are reportedly "likely" to be allowed to leave the club next season on loan.

The two only signed for the Reds within the last 12 months but were unsuccessful in establishing themselves in Steve Cooper 's starting XI during last season's Premier League promotion campaign. With Forest linked with a litany of players this summer, including plenty that play in Layrea's right wing-back role, both may find playing time even more infrequent in the top-flight.

Ojeda made just three Championship appearances after signing on transfer deadline day last September and none since the penultimate day of 2020. Laryea featured slightly more after signing in the winter window, getting onto the pitch five times, including from the start on the final day of the season against Hull City in place of Djed Spence.

With the Middlesbrough loanee returning to their parent club and being repeatedly rumoured with a permanent transfer to Tottenham Hotspur, it is perhaps a surprise that Laryea is 'likely' to be made available to leave on loan, according to The Athletic. The Canada international replaced Spence on both occasions that the wing-back did not complete the full 90 minutes against Hull and in April against West Bromwich Albion.

That Laryea is a full international some five months out from a World Cup may also be playing into that stance from the club. Canada have qualified for the men's tournament for the first time in 36 years, and the 27-year-old featured in all but one of the qualifiers to do so.

For Ojeda, it is likely more to do with a general lack of playing time. Paraguay finished 8th in South American World Cup qualifying, eight points and three places adrift of Peru, who lost out to Australia in the inter-confederation play-off earlier this month.
