Potential dates for rearranged Portsmouth vs Bolton Wanderers clash as postponement made

Bolton Wanderers' upcoming clash on the road to Portsmouth has been postponed owing to international call-ups.

Wanderers had been due to head to Fratton Park on Saturday, September 24. It was due to take place in the international break, when action in the Premier League and Championship grinds to a halt.

Games in League One and League Two usually continue, but postponements are possible should players be called up by their countries. Three from a team are needed for a postponement request to be made.

And it has now been confirmed the game has been postponed. Wanderers forward Amadou Bakayoko has been called up for Sierra Leone, with more due to be announced in the coming days.

A Wanderers statement read: "Wanderers can confirm that their scheduled Sky Bet League One fixture against Portsmouth at Fratton Park on Saturday 24 September has been postponed due to international call-ups.

"The club has been informed that three members of the squad have been selected by their countries for upcoming fixtures, and the EFL has therefore sanctioned a postponement of the game.

Amadou Bakayoko was yesterday called up for Sierra Leone's upcoming friendlies against DR Congo and South Africa. Other international squads are due to be announced in the coming days. A new date will be confirmed in due course."

So when could the game take place, with Wanderers having a busy October at present with seven games. The only free slot Wanderers currently have is Tuesday, October 4, but Pompey are in Papa Johns Trophy action against Aston Villa's under-21s on that date.

November is currently a quiet month for both teams with only two League One matches scheduled for both so far. A game around the first weekend of the month will be scheduled due to the FA Cup first round.

The second round of the competition takes place on Saturday, November 26 , and could be an option if both sides are knocked out and free to play. The second round of the Papa Johns Trophy is due to be on Wednesday, November 30.

Elsewhere in November, a couple of other dates could be selected. These could be Tuesday, November 8 , November 15, or November 22.

December also presents a couple of midweek options which both sides could take advantage of. These include Tuesday, December 6 , and December 20 , while December 14 is earmarked for the third round of the Papa Johns Trophy.
