Ange Postecoglou reckons his Tottenham Hotspur players have their work cut out for them against Liverpool as he echoed a familiar line from his managerial stretch in Glasgow.
Spurs take on Liverpool in the first leg of their English League Cup semi-final this evening (Wednesday) at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and while the London outfit's league form hasn't been great this season so far, their performances in this competition have been impressive.
Speaking ahead of the match, the former Celtic manager acknowledged his side's rocky league form before dropping the line "what we’re trying to build here" – something the Australian said time and again while in the Parkhead dugout.
He said: "We’re having a tough season. Our league form is really poor and we need to improve.
"But we are in a semi-final of a competition and with the group of players we’ve got at the moment, if we can achieve something where they are in their careers, it sets you up really well for what we’re trying to build here.
"I think it does."

Postecoglou added: "It’s not the be-all and end-all, as I’ve said many times.
"But if we get to a final and win a trophy, we’ll look back on this period of where we are as a small group of players having to rise above and beyond to get there.
"That will be as worthy of the achievement as actually winning it."
