Postecoglou reflects after making 'bold claim' about winning silverware at Spurs

Former Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has reflected on his previous claims that he 'always' wins things in his second season at clubs.

The Australian is currently enduring a tumultuous 2024/25 campaign at Tottenham Hotspur. His team are out of both domestic cups and sit 13th in the English Premier League with 10 games to go.

On the continental scene, the North London club are flirting with an early Europa League exit after losing the first leg of their last-16 tie 1-0 to AZ Alkmaar.

Postecoglou claimed at the beginning of this term that he always wins things in his second season at clubs, although the odds are now stacked against him to do so.

The 59-year-old recently addressed his previous claims: "My view has always been when you're asked the question, you answer it," he said (Sky Sports).

"I wasn't making anything up. I was asked the question, and I answered that question. People have sort of used it for their own purposes in suggesting I was making a 'bold claim', but I wasn't. I was stating a fact.

"If that doesn't happen this year [winning silverware], I can't say that anymore if I'm asked next year."

"I'll always answer things the way I feel comfortable in answering them."

Postecoglou was hugely successful in his two years at Celtic, winning five out of a possible six domestic trophies. He hasn't been able to take such prosperous form with him down to England as of yet, though.
