Post-cup blues vanish as Rangers secure crucial three points at Tynecastle

Philippe Clement credited Rangers' mentality as they shrugged off their post Scottish Cup elimination blues by securing a much-needed Premiership victory over Heart of Midlothian at Tynecastle.

Hearts defender Jamie McCart scored two unfortunate own goals in between a strike from Vaclav Cerny to give Rangers their 17th league win of the season.

McCart's first own goal had been cancelled out by Michael Steinwender just after half-time. But despite the hosts dominating possession and having 21 shots at goal, Rangers were triumphant.

Clement was pleased with the way his side responded to last weekend's embarrassing loss to Queens's Park, with the Light Blues beginning the match strongly and going on to get the result their travelling fans demanded of them.

He said: "We demanded a reaction for all of us and the team wanted that, and they showed that clearly with even scoring after two minutes. It was a very tight offside I think. I didn't see the images back but it was a good set-piece.

"It was an open game, I think it was a game that everybody enjoyed to watch. It's a hard place to come and win, scoring three goals and it could've been more also. So, it's very positive points in the mentality that the team showed after the unacceptable defeat from last week.

"Of course it was not our best game of the season. We have already played much better games but to win here stays the most important thing. In the moments where we have good performances and we didn't get points, nobody talked about that.

"We need to keep on digging in with all the team together, developing the team together, making everybody better and getting the points. That's what everybody wants."

Asked about goalkeeper Jack Butland producing several excellent saves throughout the match, the Rangers manager said: "They had their goalkeeper to thank too also. It was a hard-fought game from both sides against a team who didn't lose in their last eight games.

"They didn't lose in 2025 yet, so to come and to win here is important. It's important points again and it's about repeating this mentality week after week or game after game.

"It's things that you talk about for months, what Rangers is about and what the mentality should be in every situation. When the scenario goes against your way, you have got to keep digging in, and they all did. They get a reward also. Those should be the basic things but we are still working on that."
