Post Celtic transfer confirmed as starlet picks new club after Hoops contract expiry

Barry Coffey has selected his next club after leaving Celtic as he returns to Republic of Ireland side side Cork City for a third spell following two successful loan agreements.

The 21-year-old Irishman has been around the Hoops since the 2017/18 season but has had three separate loan terms in that period at Cork and Northern Irish club Cliftonville. He's scored 11 goals with six assists in 27 matches for the First Division outfit who he has now penned a permanent agreement with until the end of City's season

A former youth international for the Republic of Ireland, Coffey featured in the 2019 Scottish Youth Cup final against Rangers and featured in first team training during his Glasgow stint, although he never made a senior Premiership or domestic cup appearance. Speaking of the move, the midfielder said: “I am delighted to be back. I obviously came in last summer on loan and I really enjoyed my time here.

“We have a big second half of the season ahead of us and I really want do well for the team and the supporters. We have put a lot of work in over the year that I have been here, so we want to continue that and finish the job we started.”

Cork City manager Colin Healy said of his recruit from Celtic Park: “It is great to have Barry on board for the rest of the season.

"He has had two loan spells with us now, and I think everyone has seen what he can bring to the side. He has a real eye for goal, and he is a great lad around the club also.”
