Possible Newcastle blow as Everton's deal for potential Anthony Gordon replacement hijacked

Tottenham have reportedly hijacked Everton's bid to sign Villareal forward Arnaut Danjuma, according to reports. The Daily Mail claims Spurs have swooped in at the final hour, after the Dutch international completed a medical at Goodison Park.

Danjuma is reportedly yet to finalise the paperwork to become a Toffee, which has opened the door for Spurs. The report claims the former Bournemouth winger had his medical on Tuesday evening at Tottenham's training facility with a view to a medical and signing off on the deal.

That news could come as a blow to Newcastle United in their bid to sign Everton midfielder Anthony Gordon. The Blues, who just parted company with boss Frank Lampard, are still some way apart from agreeing a deal with the Magpies for the England U21 international.

Chronicle Live understands Lampard's departure from Goodison is unlikely to stop the sale of Gordon, if the price is right. Gordon was told he wasn't allowed to leave in the summer but there have been discussions between the player and his representatives about a possible exit for a fee between £35m-£40m.

Chelsea - who were in for Gordon in the summer - are believed to be back in the running. Newcastle have kept their counsel on Gordon talk with Eddie Howe refusing to confirm any interest when asked earlier this week.

Danjuma, a player that Howe knows well and was once linked with a move to St. James' Park, is set on a return to the Premier League and would be Spurs' first signing of the window.
