Portugal set to host Uefa Nations League finals after becoming first team to qualify

Portugal have become the first team to qualify for the Uefa Nations League finals and are set to be confirmed as hosts for the tournament's inaugural finale.

The European champions drew 0-0 away against Italy on Saturday night to secure top spot in group A3, which also featured Poland.

All three nations had expressed a formal interest in staging the finals, meaning the qualifying nation were always set to be named as hosts.

Portugal's original bid put forward Porto's Estádio do Dragão and the Estádio D. Afonso Henriques in Guimaraes as the stadiums to be used for the fixtures, though the venues are yet to be confirmed by Uefa. The semi-finals will be played on 5 and 6 June 2019, with the winner crowned on 9 June.

One of Belgium and Switzerland will join Portugal in the semi-finals, as well as either France or the Netherlands.

Any of the three teams in group A1 - England, Spain and Croatia - could yet qualify for the fourth and final spot.
