The Foreign Office has updated its travel advice for Portugal as the nation's government has axed more covid rules.
Previously, unvaccinated travellers were required to show proof of a negative covid test; this can be either a PCR test taken within 72 hours before travel, or a lateral flow test taken within 24 hours. But now, unvaccinated travellers will no longer have to take a test before or after arriving in mainland Portugal or Madeira and Porto Santo.
On Friday (July 1), Foreign Office advice was amended to say: "There are no COVID vaccination or testing requirements for entry to mainland Portugal, Madeira and Porto Santo."

The move comes after Greece and other nations have axed all covid entry rules - and ahead of what is set to be the busiest summer for travel in years.
While in Portugal, people are only required to wear face masks:
- on entry to medical facilities, retirement and nursing homes
- on public transport
- in taxis and private hires, and
- when travelling by air
UK travellers may also find their Portugal trips easier as they might be able to get through passport control more quickly. In May, the European nation said it will fast track UK tourists, as it currently does with EU citizens.
People arriving at Portuguese airports from the UK will now be able to use eGates instead of having to join manual queues alongside other non-European travellers.
