Scots holidaymakers will be able to enter Portugal faster following a recent travel rule change.
Birmingham Live reports that all British tourists will be fast tracked when going through check-ins - similar to that of EU citizens.
British tourists will be allowed to use eGates alongside EU citizens when arriving at airports such as Lisbon, Porto, Faro and Funchal.
This change means that British passport holders will no longer be required to join lengthy manual queues, unless they are asked.
Holidaymakers from the UK are said to make up a significant portion of Portugal’s yearly tourism numbers.
Figures released by the Portuguese government revealed that the UK was the second largest contributor to Portugal’s overall tourism revenue in January and February this year.
The changes to border control rules comes weeks after Portugal announced that it is axing its passenger locator form requirements - which will remain mandatory for travellers heading to Madeira or Porto Santo.
There are are still other entry rules in place for travellers. Fully-vaccinated Brits can enter without any Covid tests, but if you're unvaccinated or partially vaccinated you'll need to show proof of a negative Covid test; this can be either a PCR test taken within 72 hours before travel, or a lateral flow test taken within 24 hours.
It's not just Covid travel rules which have changed; Portugal has also eased some of its local Covid rules.
For example, Portugal's Health Minister announced earlier this month that face masks would no longer be mandatory for indoor spaces, except for the likes of public transport and the likes of care homes.
