Royal Worcester cookware and ceramics manufacturer Portmeirion has rescued home fragrances business AromaWorks London from the jaws of the administrators.
The Stoke-On-Trent based business bought the essential oils retailer that has a customer base in the UK and US for £440,000 from AromaWorks Limited that had been in administration.
Last year AromaWorks reported unaudited sales of £4.1 million and profits of £300,000.
Closing the cash deal means Portmeirion will hold intellectual property inventory and certain fixed assets of the company.
The business will now look to take advantage of synergies between Aromaworks and its own fragrance arm Wax Lyrical.
Mike Raybould boss of Portmeirion, said that AromaWorks would join his “family of brands”.
“This gives us a great opportunity to further leverage both our production capabilities and our global sales infrastructure. We expect to deliver on cost synergies and cross-selling opportunities within the first twelve months,” he added.
The company said that AromaWorks had successfully opened its first US market customer account listings during the past six months and it looked forward to supporting and enabling growth in the “key market” through its existing US sales and distribution operation.
Portmeirion is a designer, manufacturer and worldwide distributor of homewares and fragrances under the Portmeirion, Spode, Royal Worcester, Pimpernel, Wax Lyrical and Nambé brands.
AromaWorks London is a Reading-based wellbeing brand founded in 2009 by aromatherapist Jane Hibbert.
