Construction on Lexington’s Town Branch Park has closed a portion of Manchester Street near the Central Bank Center through next spring. Nancy Albright is the city’s Environmental Quality and Public Works commissioner. She said the park’s main entrance will be on High Street, and park and city officials have designed a concept to reimagine the Manchester-High Street connection area.
“It will still provide access to the recently constructed garage for Rupp Arena and a nice gateway entrance to the park, and then still continue the access for the businesses and that connection down to Oliver Lewis Way.”
Albright said the stretch of Manchester Street that’s closed is a short one and detour signs are posted.
“You go further down High Street and turn directly on Oliver Lewis way, but I will say that little connection, that little shortcut from High Street down Manchester to Oliver Lewis, is a pretty popular connection, especially after events that Rupp Arena.”
On the city’s website, Town Branch Park is described as a place that will transform acres of asphalt into an unprecedented signature park in the heart of downtown Lexington. It’s expected to open in mid- to late-2025.
