Portimonense vs Celtic faces TV and live stream blackout as first game of Brendan Rodgers second coming skipped

Celtic fans hoping to catch a glimpse of Brendan Rodgers' revamped side will have to wait as his first pre-season game in charge faces a TV blackout.

The Scottish Premiership champions start their friendly fixture list against Portimonense in the Algarve today when they face off against the Primeira Liga side - who are are managed by former Hearts boss Paul Sergio. It is the first of a double header between the sides fixtures after Rodgers took his squad to Portugal for a warm weather training camp ahead of their journey to the Far East for further friendlies.

Portimonense finished just outside of the relegation zone in Portugal’s top flight last season and Celtic fans would have been hoping to see a statement performance from last season's Treble winners to kick-off the second coming of Rodgers - with potential hints on how the Hoops will shape up next term. However, the game at the training complex The Campus in the Algarve resort of Quinta Do Lago will not be streamed by either club.

It means that fans will likely have to wait until Yokohama F Marinos to catch a glimpse of the Rodgers' revolution. A second game against the Portuguese side is pencilled in for Saturday, July 15 with an 11am start - but with today's fixtures blanked a stream is unlikely to be made available of the closed-door match up.

Marco Tilio and Odin Thiago Holm will likely make their debut during the clash. The likes of returning Mikey Johnston will also hope for a chance under the Irishman after his loan spell in Portugal.
