Port's Farrell inks five-year contract extension

Port Adelaide defender Kane Farrell has resisted overtures from rival clubs and signed a five-year contract extension with the Power.

Victorian-born Farrell was due for free agency status at the end of the season but his fresh deal ties him to Port until the end of the 2030 season.

The 26-year-old's importance at halfback for the Power was magnified by Dan Houston's departure for Collingwood in last year's trade period.

"I'm settled in Adelaide with my partner and have made some great mates at the club over the last few years," said Farrell, who has played 96 AFL games since his 2018 debut.

"I feel like my best football is still to come."

Port's list manager Justin Cripps said re-signing the influential left-footer was significant for the club.

"We've seen him grow into an impactful, reliable footballer who works hard and leads by example," Cripps said.

"His ball movement out of the backline and sharp left foot are trademarks of his game and we look forward to seeing him continue to grow."
