British steakhouse Hawskmoor, which has restaurants in London, Manchester, Edinburgh, Liverpool and New York, is gearing up to open in Dublin in 2023.
The group has requested planning permission to transform the former National Irish Bank building on College Green into a restaurant space.
According to restaurant bosses, the expansion into Dublin has been "in the works for a long time" and plans are in place to restore much of the original features in the building and incorporating them into the restaurant when it opens next spring.

Some of those grand features in the building include the 40-foot cast iron dome and ornate plasterwork. They also plan to reinstall features that would have previously been in the historic building such as the cast iron railings similar to those originally installed in the 1880s.
"Our goal is to restore it to its former glory, enhance features that have been shielded from public view in recent decades, and enable as many people as possible to enjoy this beautiful historic building," Hawksmoor co-founder Huw Gott explained.
Meanwhile co-founder Will Beckett said of the new Dublin restaurant: "We’ve been coming to Dublin for years to spend time in one of our favourite cities for food and drink, always keeping an eye open for a beautiful space.
"When we saw the former National Bank on College Green, we fell in love. It’s only taken us 16 years to finally get from London to Dublin, but can’t wait to open Hawksmoor in what we think is one of the most hospitable cities in the world."
Items on the menu of Hawksmoor's restaurants in cities such as Manchester and London include oysters, monkfish, hamburgers and steaks.
The restaurant was founded in London in 2006 and the opening in Dublin will be the very first in Ireland. The site was previously and Abercrombie and Fitch clothing store which closed its doors in 2021.
