Popular Scottish bakery closes town branch 'with immediate effect'

AN expanding Scottish bakery has closed one of its branches with immediate effect.

Beth Browning's Bakery on Townhead Street in Stevenston, has closed down, it has been confirmed.

The branch first opened in October 2019, becoming the second to be operated by the award-winning company at that time, adding to their original premises in Kilwinning.

The opening was much heralded, with the shop officially opened in early-2020 by then North Ayrshire Council provost Ian Clarkson.

Since then, the business has further expanded and opened two shops in East Ayrshire, in Kilmaurs and then Kilmarnock.

However, operations are now to cease in Stevenston after a decision was taken not to renew the existing lease on the shop.

Beth Browning's initially signed up for a five-year tenure and its owners say they have opted not to extend so focus can be shifted to other stores and future opportunities.

A spokesperson said: "In October 2019 we opened at Townhead Street, Stevenston, with a five-year lease.

"Our lease has now come to an end and we have made the decision not to renew it so we can focus on our other shops and future opportunities. The shop will be closed with immediate affect.

"Thank you to all the staff who have worked for us over the years and of course all our amazing customers we truly appreciate you all.

"You can still get all our fantastic bakery products at our Kilwinning shop. Goodbye and thank you all."
