Popular restaurant to reopen under new ownership as menu at Kilmarnock venue is unveiled

A popular Kilmarnock restaurant spot is to reopen its doors under new ownership.

Best known as the venue that was once home to Merchants for a number of years, the Queen Street eaterie was most recently Kooshy's.

It's been more than a decade since Merchants closed its doors in the town centre.

Kooshy's appears to have downsized to a takeaway premises in Springside after taking charge of the Kilmarnock building in October 2019.

Now the building looks set to become a bistro with work well underway to transform the eaterie.

Dubbed Olivia's Bistro, former Bar Luca owner Gary Cunningham is behind the ambitious bid to breathe life into the venue.

A newly released menu shows the restaurant will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, although no official opening date has been announced.

Breakfast will feature the usual fare but includes a croque monsieur, a breakfast burrito and a breakfast waffle burger.

Lunch features a range of baked potatoes, wraps, sandwiches, toasties and bagels along with loaded fries.

Dinner features traditional dishes like steak and link pie, cajun crepes, haggis neeps and tatties and pan fried duck breast. A Birra Moretti battered haddock is also on the menu.

Pasta and grill items make the cut and there's also sharing boards to choose from.

Desserts showcase cheesecake, eton mess, sticky toffee pudding and a range of sundaes.
