Popular Perth Santa Run set to bring plenty of festive cheer in early December

It has become synonymous with winter fun in the heart of the Fair City.

Now the organiser of Perth Santa Run is hoping this year’s event can bring more festive cheer than ever before.

A bumper crowd of walkers, runners and even dogs donned in red and white suits will be taking over the city centre on Saturday, December 3 for the unique showpiece.

Entries recently opened and organiser Nicholas Kydd is sending out the rallying call for anyone interested to join in the pre-Christmas cracker.

“What makes it special is that it brings together all ages and capabilities and families/groups to a non-competitive friendly event,” Nicholas explained to the Perthshire Advertiser.

“It’s also nice to see everyone joining together in the warm up before and then it’s still nice to see after the event groups of Santas and families walking about the city centre having hot drinks or simply walking around the town.

“At this time, it’s nice to see families doing something together.”

The 5km event will begin at 12 noon and will take in the city centre before finishing on the North
Inch. Entry includes Santa suit (unless hat only selected), goodie bag and a finishers’ medal.

“The atmosphere on the day is very positive - even if it’s raining or snowing - as young kids go around the route with their families and friends taking part in a large event,” Nicholas continued.

“Feedback regarding police officers and stewards around the route are all very positive. We tend to find it’s the same stewards/helpers each year as they look forward to being part of the day itself.”

Nicholas says interest in this year’s event has been “steady” and he is looking forward to seeing many of the familiar faces who are always quick to sign up, as well as an abundance of newcomers.

“We tend to find that as the event draws nearer the interest builds, which is nice,” Nicholas said.

And he smiled: “But as an organiser it would be less stressful if they “get their skates on” slightly earlier. My message would be to come along, enjoy the day and run/walk or push a pram along the route and soak up the atmosphere.

“This year more than ever we have tried to accommodate all options including a reduced family ticket, “hat only” ticket for environmental purposes and a “virtual” option for anyone else who wants to feel part of the event, but cannot travel to the city centre on the day.”
