Popular Parking Tag app to introduce monthly charge for customers

The popular Payzone Parking Tag app has introduced new charges that will impact both regular and recurring motorists who use the app for parking.

Two separate charges were being introduced for its customers from October 1. Motorists who routinely use the app on their smartphones to pay for on-street parking will be charged an additional 99c per month without a transaction fee. Meanwhile, occasional customers will be charged 35c per transaction.

One Reddit user said they were attempting to close their account in order to avoid the added fees, but that there was no option on the app to facilitate this. They hit out at the company for not being “consumer friendly” and queried whether anyone else had experienced similar issues.

The Reddit user wrote: “At present, I don't see how I can close my account to avoid fees, let alone without losing the remaining balance. Worst of all, There does not seem to be a way of disabling the auto top-up 'feature'. Its limited to a €10 minimum.”

However, the user provided an update for customers struggling to cancel their accounts. People with similar issues can contact the customer service team at Payzone through their email at ptsupport@parkingtag.ie.

App users are requested to have their mobile phone and driver registration numbers ready when cancelling their account. They will also be asked a security question that they entered when registering for Payzone. Customers will have their full balance refunded at the end of the process.

Payzone is Ireland’s largest payments solution provider and offers customers services such as mobile phone top up, M50 toll payments and credit card transactions. Customers can pay for on street parking in stores that participate as Payzone Agents.
