Popular Marks & Spencer food urgently recalled over fears it could be 'unsafe' to eat

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has issued a recall notice for a batch of of Marks and Spencer’s own-brand chocolate bars due to the presence of an allergen.

According to officials, the Belgian Dark Chocolate bar fails to list milk as an ingredient on the exterior packaging - which could make it a danger to those allergic to it.

The alert was published today and reads: “The above batch of M&S Food Belgian Dark Chocolate bar may contain milk which is not declared in the list of ingredients.

“This may make the batch unsafe for consumers allergic to or intolerant of milk”.

The affected bars have a best before date of 09/11/2023.

For most, the presence of milk will cause no harm, but if you are someone who has purchased the item for its milk-free recipe, you can return it for a full refund at your point of purchase.

According to the Mayo Clinic, a Milk allergy is an atypical immune system response to milk and products containing milk and it's one of the most common food allergies in children.

The signs and symptoms of a milk allergy range from mild to severe and can include wheezing, vomiting, hives, and digestive problems.

However, it can also cause anaphylaxis — a severe, life-threatening reaction.

Avoiding milk and milk products is the primary treatment for milk allergy, but fortunately, most children outgrow a milk allergy.
