Popular Leeds chippy people travel miles and queue up hours for

Fish and Chip Fridays are a widespread tradition up north.

For most people, Good Friday is the start of the long weekend, and many choose to celebrate the occasion with a traditional trip to the chippy. But one fish and chip restaurant in Yeadon proves ever so popular every year.

Dozens of hungry customers at Murgatroyds in Yeadon faced a long wait as huge queues snaked around its restaurant in Leeds last year, and this year is expected to be no different.

Murgatroyds is renowned for its huge queues every day of the week but on Good Friday they're known to be over a half hour long. Last year customers recalled how they waiting over 30 minutes to try the chippy - these large queues are expected again this Easter weekend.

But the delay does not seem to faze many customers, one man told reporter, Connor Teale, last year he would happily "wait an hour" for his Good Friday fish supper.

Another customer, Paul, had travelled from "the other side of Bradford" for the takeaway. He told Connor: "We are here for a bit of a treat - Murgatroyds is one of the best.

"I have been here for about half-an-hour so I hope it’s worth it. I hope they are not rushing them out or I might end up a bit disappointed!

"But I never have been disappointed here."

Steven Delacour concurred, saying: "They do the best fish and chips here."

When asked if it was worth the wait, Steven replied: "There is nothing else to do, is there? I’d wait for an hour!"

A third customer, Lindon, said: "The wait will be worth it eventually.

"We have come from Halifax - my family are waiting in the car. We are heading to the Tarn, just for something for the kids to do. It is always nice to be out with the family and grab some fish and chips.

"Murgatroyd’s is one of the best in the area but I don’t think I’d wait an hour! It has dropped a bit chilly."
