A popular Lanarkshire pub which closed just last week will reopen under new owners next month.
The Cosy Corner in Hamilton called last orders on Thursday, August 4. It came as energy prices overwhelmed the business, with profits depleting in recent months.
But within days of the bar's final farewell, new owners Jamie Duffy and Jon McDowall, who run nearby establishments The Windsor and West End Bar, stepped in to take the reigns, and continuing the legacy of one of the popular boozer in the town.
The duo will now undertake a complete renovation of the pub and they aim to hold a grand reopening party in around six weeks during the September weekend.
The return of the Cosy Corner will see new beers, a pool table, juke box and dart board.
And further down the line there are plans for a new beer garden.
The pub won't be serving food straight away when it reopens, but will plan to do so in the future.
After the success of their other boozers, Jamie and John will continue their live entertainment nights in the Cosy Corner every Friday and Saturday.
This sees local acts and musicians take the stage to entertain punters. And this may be extended to Sundays and Mondays depending on how the opening months go for the new owners.
Jamie told Lanarkshire Live : "We’re hoping to have it open for September weekend. We are in the middle of completely renovating the place, decorating, new beer lines and system, new lighting, planning on a new beer garden and a lick of paint.
"We're also bringing back the pool table, juke box, puggy and dart board. We aren’t planning to do food right away but will look at it once it’s open as a pub first."
Locals were left disappointed last week when the Cosy Corner's previous owner announced the pub, located on Mill Road, would close.
The decision came down to soaring energy prices which are said to have trebled in recent times.
The pub announced at the time: "Today Cosy Corner will close. I made the decision last night due to a number of reasons.
"The increase to electricity and gas, our fuel prices have trebled which has left any profit for the business eaten away by this.
"My health isn’t great. I was admitted to hospital last week and I’m awaiting surgery.
"I’d like to thank all my loyal customers and friends for their support and wish them well. I've made some great friends and have had many great times at the Cosy Corner.
"If times weren’t so hard and price increases weren’t so high I’d still be there."
Any bookings made at the Cosy Corner will still be honoured however they have been switched to Doherty's Lounge in Hamilton where the previous owner has now taken over.
The reopening party at the Cosy Corner is expected to take place on the weekend of September 23 and 24.
