Bookmakers have revealed the latest odds on who will most likely become a permanent This Morning presenter after either Phillip Schofield or Holly Willoughby will inevitably say goodbye following 14 years on screen together. The show is currently embroiled in controversy after the presenting duo hit headlines over their rumoured 'feud'.
The presenting duo have been colleagues and close friends for 17 years, having first met in 2006 when they were both fronting Dancing on Ice. However, the pair have had a number of rumoured backstage disputes, and are said to be at eat others' throats so much that when the cameras finish rolling, they are 'barely speaking'.
And now, leading bookmaker Coral is betting on who will be a permanent This Morning presenter in 2023, replacing either Holly or Phil. Alison Hammond is odds-on at 1-2, Dermot O’Leary is 2-1 to get the job, Rylan Clark is 3-1, while Piers Morgan is a 10-1 outsider.
“Alisson Hammond and Dermot O'Leary have both done a great job on a Friday, so they would be obvious choices to replace either Holly or Phillip,” said Coral’s John Hill.
“Rochelle Humes and Rylan Clark are both at the end of the betting and have attracted interest, while some punters are backing outsider Piers Morgan to make a sensational return to ITV morning television,” added Hill.
It comes as the pair's growing tension is reported to have begun in 2019 after it was alleged that Phil became 'jealous' when Holly won a BAFTA for her short stint on 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!' in place of Ant McPartlin.
Sources claim the friendship went downhill from there, with things in the studio becoming awkward when the pair were wrongly accused of 'skipping the queue' whilst reporting on the late Queen's lying-in-state.
In April things got worse for the duo as Timothy Schofield, Phil's brother, was convicted of 11 sexual offences, including two of sexual activity with a child, between October 2016 and October 2019.
It is yet to be confirmed whether Phil or Holly will leave the ITV daytime show.
However, following the criticism, several petitions have been set up calling for the pair to call it a day. The original petition was set up by Laura Harrison and has surpassed 75,000 signatures.
