Popular Irish pub that has existed for 300 years slapped with closure order

A popular pub in Dublin was served with a closure order last month, according to the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI).

O'Neills on Suffolk Street, Dublin 2, was served with the enforcement order on October 27 2022 by the HSE under the FSAI Act 1998.

The reasons for the closure order were not disclosed but it was lifted the next day on October 28.

O'Neills has been around as a licensed premises for over 300 years. The traditional Irish pub serves food and drinks and is located near the iconic Molly Malone Statue in the city centre.

According to the FSAI, a closure order is served where "there is or there is likely to be a grave and immediate danger to public health at or in the food premises" or when an improvement order is not complied with.

Closure orders can refer to the immediate closure of all or part of the food premises, or all or some of its activities. The orders may be lifted when the premises has improved to the satisfaction of the authorised officer.

Additionally, Nico, a takeaway at 289 Richmond Road, Ballybough, Dublin 3, was also served with a closure order on October 26. The order, issued by the HSE under the FSAI Act 1998, is yet to be lifted.

Panda Chinese Take Away in Clogheen, Co Tipperary, was also served with a closure order under the FSAI Act 1998 on October 24 that is also yet to be lifted.
