A popular Irish bar and restaurant that's been in business for over 130 years has hit back at a customer who they say drove one member of staff to tears and allegedly suggested the owner's immigrant status meant he "shouldn't be in business in Ireland".
The Algiers Inn in West Cork responded to the women's bad review on TripAdvisor calling it a "hostile, personal attack" rather than anything constructive, and added that they're happy she'll "never darken our door again".
The woman posted the review on January 22nd, saying the burgers were cold and nobody cleared their starters, CorkBeo reports.
She needlessly described the owner as "an American bringing disgrace on Irish Hospitality" adding that he'd "no balls and sent a young girl to deal with disaster".
The review was also followed up by second person who was at the same table.
Co-owner Ann Hillyard wasn't having any of their behaviour, saying the food was "hot and fresh" and that the crew even offered to recook it despite knowing that.
She also pointed out they offered to waive the charge - "but instead, you chose to moan about it as you ate all of it".
Ann said: "Even though we knew your food was hot and fresh, we offered to recook it, replace it, or take it away and not charge you for it. Instead, you chose to moan about it as you ate all of it.
"I apologised to you and you mocked me for it. Then you continued to berate our staff, driving one to tears with your relentless haranguing. She was consoled by other guests who witnessed your deplorable behaviour.
"Your reputation as an insatiable complainer is well-known in Baltimore.
"That evening, in fact, you had complained at Casey’s about your accommodation before you arrived to us and again at Bushes about the wine after you left us.
"It’s a small village, we all talk. The silver lining to your one-star review is the knowledge that you will never darken our door again."
The beloved spot also posted a screenshot of the review on their Facebook, and locals rallied in support for The Algiers which has always been deemed a top place for visitors and regulars for its entire existence.
Chris Costello said: "I had a great meal in The Algiers and found the service and staff very good. Will definitely return and recommend it to my friends."
Anmaire Geraghty also told of her great experience there saying: "I have eaten in The Algiers a few times and the food has always been beautiful and the service great, thank you."
