Popular Holme Pierrepont white water rafting attraction closed due to flooding

A popular white water rafting spot has had to be closed off due to flooding.

Images from Holme Pierrepont show part of the river which creates a waterfall for rafters to go down has been turned off due to erratic weather in Nottinghamshire.

The often idyllic Holme Lock is a popular place for white water rafters to visit but will currently be out of use for people hoping to use it.

Pictures also appear to show some debris landed in the river - another potential hazard for those wanting to ride through Holme Pierrepoint.

This comes after alarming footage showed drivers having to navigate flooding in two different parts of the A52 earlier this week after the recent bad weather.

Flooding and debris in Holme Pierrepoint has meant that white water rafters will not be able to use the waterfall (Stuart Vanner and Samuel Underwood)

A spokesperson for Holme Pierrepont Country Park said: "What happens is when the water goes over a certain level after rainfall we have to close our course to the public.

"There are lots of entrapment issues, other objects can cause potential risks of entrapment.

"Also, when the water level goes very low there can also be a high risk of catching diseases from the River Trent.

"That's the general reason why we had to close it off."

The closure has come after three named storms hit the UK - Dudley, Eunice and Franklin
