Popular harbourside restaurant to close while undergoing major renovation

Popular seaside eaterie Niche is set to close its doors for two weeks to undergo a huge transformation.

The quirky Irvine restaurant, well known for its unique Scottish twists on classic dishes, will close its doors on Monday, February 6.

Currently, Niche can seat up to 31 hungry patrons, but the add-on conservatory means they can feed and water an additional 18 guests.

There will also be a brand-new kitchen for their talented chefs along with plans to refurbish their busy bar.

Although the eaterie only opened in Irvine six years ago, the venue has quickly grown a large following thanks to its out-of-the-box thinking creative dishes and massive cocktail menu.

General manager Kenny Hepburn said: "It's pretty major work that needs to be done because there is a big supporting wall that is having to come down but this new space will be great for large parties and I can finally stop turning people away.

"We can fill the restaurant five times over most days - which is a great problem to have but I don't like disappointing people so the extra space is exciting.

"The new kitchen is very exciting because it will give our chefs the space they need to keep up with the demand. Over the past few years, growth has been considerable and it's great for our guys to have the area and tools to the need to cope with the extra demand.

"The new bar will be great for our front-of-house staff dealing with the high demand of our cocktails that we pride ourselves on; not to toot our own trumpet but we're probably the best cocktail restaurant in Irvine."

Kenny has teased there will be some new menu items on the horizon too.

He added: "We will be revamping the drinks menu and our food menu in April. We always want to keep moving on and keep our menu interesting.

"I'm excited for a wee bit of time off but I'm even more excited to get back to our new space and welcome everyone back."
