One of Swansea's best-loved wedding venues has been awarded a four food hygiene rating after a re-inspection. The King Arthur Hotel, which operates as a pub, B&B and wedding venue in Reynoldston, Gower, had previously been given a food hygiene rating of one in its inspection in February this year - much to the shock and disappointment of the management.
At the time, management at the venue told WalesOnline they were "shocked and devastated by the poor rating" they received from Swansea Council inspectors assessing on behalf of the Food Standards Agency, and said they had immediately rectified the areas of concern raised in the inspection.
They said back then: "The last two years have been a very difficult time for our industry. We have tried to get through it but high levels of staff shortages and difficulty recruiting have made it extremely challenging. Unfortunately, this has resulted in some of our management systems and training not being kept up to date, hence the poor score.
"We can reassure our customers that everything is now being managed to a high standard. Food safety will be our top priority. We will be applying for a re-score as soon as we are able to. Unfortunately, the way this is managed means it could be three months before a re-inspection takes place. We are confident that when it does, we will regain our high score."

The King Arthur Hotel has now been re-inspected and handed its new four rating, which means good. The highest possible score is five, which means very good.
The inspection took place on May 25, 2022, and the result was published on the official food hygiene ratings website on August 2, 2022. A brief summary of the business's food hygiene report can also be seen on the website. For two of the three categories discussed, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building and management of food safety, the venue received a 'good' rating. For the third category, hygienic food handling, the venue received a 'generally satisfactory' rating.
What did the King Arthur Hotel say?
In a statement, management at The King Arthur Hotel said: "We are pleased with the new food hygiene rating and would like to thank our staff for their continuous hard work and our customers for their loyal support during these difficult times for the hospitality industry. We are also very pleased to say that the staffing levels have improved significantly and an external food hygiene company has implemented new training measures.
"We are looking forward to a busy summer for the pub with regular live music and also hosting many weddings, conferences and functions. We are already taking bookings for Christmas and New Year’s Eve plus next year's wedding diary is filling up very quickly."
