Popular Glasgow restaurant announces shock closure after 20 years

A POPULAR Glasgow restaurant has announced its shock closure after 20 years.

Barca Tapas and Cava Bar, which was located in the Princess Square Shopping Centre on Buchanan Street, revealed the devastating news on social media on Tuesday, January 7.

In a post, the Spanish-inspired eatery said it was with "sadness" that they were announcing the permanent closure of the venue after serving up top dishes to hungry punters in the city for two decades.

While revealing the food joint's closure, bosses of the venue thanked customers for their "loyal support" over the years.

They also thanked their "dedicated team" as well.

According to the restaurant's website, it officially shut its doors on Sunday, January 5, 2024.

In an Instagram statement, the venue said: "It is with sadness that we must confirm the permanent closure of Barca Tapas and Cava Bar.

"Having traded for twenty years, we feel proud to have been a part of the Glasgow restaurant scene and, more importantly, so many special occasions over the years.

"We are incredibly grateful to have served you! "We would like to take this opportunity to thank our customers for their loyal support and our dedicated team, many of whom have been with us since the early days.

"A special shout out to our fantastic manager, the one and only Craig! You’ve seen us through the good times and the bad, and we’ve always laughed along the way.

"Barca wouldn’t have been Barca without you. We’re taking an opportunity to rest and reflect on many years of hard work. If you have a valid voucher for Barca please don’t worry.

"We have contacted all voucher purchasers via email with details on how these can be redeemed in our other venues or refunded. "Enviando Amor. The Team at Barca Tapas."

After revealing the devastating news, gutted foodies flocked to the comments of the post to share their sadness about it.

One cried: "Noooo."

Another chimed: "This is devastating and I don't mean it in a mellow dramatic kind of way.

"Genuinely some of the best days/nights out in Glasgow have involved a stop by Barça. This closure will be a sore one.

"Honestly all the best to the tremendous team who have worked there over the years. I've never known a restaurant to be as consistent as it is."

A third added: "End of an era - so many great memories. Wishing you all the very best team Barca."

Meanwhile, a fourth said: "Gutted.

"It was a brilliant place to work for a few years and an even better place to visit for food, and drinks and see all the staff."
