Popular Glasgow bakery seeking new owners as customers praise 'treasure to the east end'

The owners of a hugely popular Glasgow bakery have decided to move on to seek 'new opportunities'.

Sweet Jane Bakehouse opened on Duke Street back in March 2020, just before covid struck, and continued to bake beautiful breads and sweet treats for the people of Dennistoun during the pandemic.

Sweet Jane is famed for its excellent cakes, sourdough, focaccia and more and the team will be baking up their best eats until the end of the month, May 29.

Announcing their news on social media over the weekend, owners say they'd "love to see our baby continue in some capacity" as they put out a call out to anyone interested in taking the business over.

Their message reads: "Dennistoun, we have some news. After a two year journey, baking our way through a pandemic and carving out our own wee niche in the neighbourhood, we've decided it's time for us to move on to new opportunities and offer Sweet Jane to someone else.

"We've had a blast serving you up our bakes, and it's been a privilege getting to know everyone who's come through the door - regulars, occasionals and everyone in between.

"We'd love to see our baby continue in some capacity with the love and attention she deserves, so if you'd like to discuss the opportunity to take over the business or even the lease, reach out to us for a chat here or at sweetjanebakehouse@gmail.com.

"We'll be baking all the way up to the 29th of May and are looking forward to seeing your lovely faces in the meantime.

"Thanks to everyone who's played a part, it's been very special."

And understandably, the message has been met with an outpouring of love and sadness that Sweet Jane could potentially shut up shop.

One customer said: "Noooooooo I’m gutted, please don’t leave us!

Another added: "Without a doubt the worst news. So long and thanks for all the sourdough."

And a number of responses praised Sweet Jane and their staff for their positive contribution to the neighbourhood, especially during lockdown.

A further comment read: "You guys played a massive part in me making it through lockdown…it became the highlight of my week…amazing baked goods and human connection with some truly beautiful humans… thank you."

One person said: "You have been a great contributing to Dennistoun. Thank you so much."

And one customer summed up the thoughts of many, writing: "An absolute treasure to the east end. So sorry to hear this but wish you all the luck in the world!"
