Popular Edinburgh park bistro to reopen under new ownership after sad closure

A popular Edinburgh park bistro which recently closed down is set to reopen under new ownership.

The owners of the Saughton Garden Bistro made the sad announcement in February that they would be stepping back from the business, much to the disappointment of locals who found it a convenient pit stop for a snack of freshly cooked meal.

The previous owners of the Garden Bistro even resorted to investing personal money into the project but were ultimately left with no other option but to close due to the post-pandemic hangover and rising industry costs.

Now, five months later, local charity Four Square are advertising a café manager job on their website and say the role is for a new business opening within Saughton Park.

Four Square, a homeless prevention charity, say they will be working plan to offer volunteering and training opportunities for those who face homelessness in the city.

They have also pencilled in a projected opening date of August as a section of the job description states: "We are thrilled to announce the upcoming opening of a new Café at Saughton Park by Four Square, looking to open in August, and we are currently seeking a dynamic Café Manager to join us as soon as possible.

"Your primary responsibility will be to ensure the smooth set up and operation of the café. As a social enterprise, our café plays a dual role in generating income and providing volunteering and training opportunities for individuals who face homelessness in Edinburgh."

The description also adds that the café will sell alcohol, similar to the Garden Bistro.

Four Square employs over 80 staff at seven locations across the capital providing support, advice and accommodation to those facing homelessness. They also run one of Scotland’s largest social enterprises, Edinburgh Furniture Initiative, where they re-sell donated furniture to support the charity.
