Popular Edinburgh eatery Kilted Donuts set to close restaurant amid rising costs

A beloved Edinburgh doughnut shop is set to close their Leith branch amid rising costs.

The Kilted Donut will be closing their Leith eatery this Sunday, citing the rise in running costs as the reason they can no longer stay open.

They announced their decision on their Instagram account today, saying that “the cost of living, increases in costs and a lack of staff” have combined to make it impossible for them to stay open.

After they close on Sunday, April 24, they will look to sell their lease.

However, they will still be available for deliveries and their shop in Stockbridge will remain open for the time being.

Posting on their Instagram page, they said: “It is with a heavy heart that we have decided to close our Leith shop.

“Our last day will be Sunday the 24th of April.

“The cost of living, increases in costs and a lack of staff have all combined to make it impossible to continue. We will put all our energy into our Stockbridge shop and will continue with home deliveries.

“We are deeply upset about leaving Leith. Thank you so much to everyone who came to visit us in Leith, we will miss you.”

Customers took to the comments section to express their condolences to the owners.

One person posted: “ This is so sad. I am very sorry to hear this guys, but will just have to come and see you in Stocky B. Much love!”

Another said: “Sorry to read this but better to make the hard choice now than be forced into an impossible one later.”

And yet another posted: “My dog will be gutted! He’s always trying to get in to get donuts.”

And another: “Oh guys that’s so sad to hear, I hope stockbridge will still be going strong and who knows what the future brings!”

The post on Instagram has so far managed to get more than 250 likes on Instagram as people share their messages of support to the owners.
