Popular Liberties pub The Clock has thanked its loyal customers and staff after they closed their doors for good last night.
The Thomas Street boozer has been part of the Dublin 8 community for generations. But the building that houses the pub has been sold which means the lease on the pub is void, according to a source.
In an emotional post on social media early this morning, the pub said they "tried our best to keep it open. but as always in this country. money talks."

"I would like to thank all of you who have come through our door," the post continued. "I have made friends and some special friends. To the entertainers who we had, thank you to making this pub a special place.
"Especially our residents spots from Monday to Sunday Mick, Cathy, Lindi and my mates Graham and Derek, I owe you a lot. Thank you to you all who walked through the door of our premises, thank you it was a great experience.
"And finally to all the staff past and present who are a family to me now, thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this dream come true and making this place one of the best venues around. Till we see you all in our next venture, thank you."
Many punters expressed their bitter disappointment at the news online. One Twitter user said: "Sh*te. Love that place, proper locals joint. The Liberties is going the way of Stoneybatter."
Another commented: "It’s [The Liberties] all gonna be gentrified to f**k, student apartments and hotels coming out it’s arse and all of it on historic sites. It’s depressing as f**k."
A third said: "You'd hear The Clock was known for the best pint of Guinness in Ireland due to its very close proximity to its source. Whether true or not I do not know but I like to think they were the best and was never disappointed."
