Popular Dublin pub hosting Neil Young night after singer removes music from Spotify

A popular Dublin pub is hosting a Neil Young night after the singer removed his music from Spotify.

The Big Romance on Parnell Street is hosting a night dedicated to the Canadian musician after the performer requested his music be removed from the streaming service due to the spread of vaccine "misinformation" by podcaster Joe Rogan.

The popular bar took to Instagram to announce a special night dedicated to musician's "deepest cuts and biggest hits, no longer found on Spotify" on Thursday, February 10.

They explained: "We’re going to salute the catalogue of one of music’s biggest living legends, all on vinyl."

Neil Young posted a since deleted letter to his management team and record label demanding that his music be removed from the streaming service.

"I am doing this because Spotify is spreading fake information about vaccines, potentially causing death to those who believe the disinformation being spread by them" the singer wrote.

"Please act on this immediately today and keep me informed of the time schedule."

Referring to popular podcast host Joe Rogan, he continued: "They can have Rogan or Young. Not both."

In December, 270 doctors, physicians, and science educators signed an open letter asking Spotify to stop spreading Rogan’s claims about Covid-19 vaccines.

They said: "Spotify has a responsibility to mitigate the spread of misinformation on its platform, though the company presently has no misinformation policy."

Spotify has since said it is working to add advisory warnings to any podcast discussing Covid-19.

Much of the controversy stemmed from Rogan's latest episodes of The Joe Rogan Experience where he featured cardiologist Dr Peter McCullough and immunologist/virologist Dr Robert Malone.

Both guests expressed views that went against information about the Covid-19 vaccine from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Rogan claimed that he never attempted to spread misinformation about vaccines, explaining: "My pledge to you is that I will do my best to try to balance out these more controversial viewpoints with other people's perspectives, so we can maybe find a better point of view.

"I'm not mad at Neil Young, I'm a huge Neil Young fan," he said, noting his admiration for Mitchell's music as well."
