Popular Chorlton restaurant closes its doors in emotional farewell

An award-winning chicken restaurant in Chorlton has announced that it has shuttered for good, bidding farewell to its team and customers in an emotional farewell video. Peck & Yard - Manchester’s first Pan-Asian fried chicken shack - shared the news on its social media pages via a video, which documented their last staff meal.

The restaurant and takeaway, which serves chicken dishes with a Asian twist, was launched in 2018 by friends Ed Cayton and Bovies Chee. Its menu focuses on wings, drumsticks, burgers and more - all slathered with a range of delicious homemade sauces ranging from katsu to Malaysian satay and red hot Koreana.

In the video shared to Instagram, the owners said it “really broke our hearts saying goodbye”, but once back on their feet, their staff would hopefully be back with them. The clip also shows their “loyal” staff sharing one last meal together before they closed their doors - with lots of hugs shared and some tears shed.

Under the video, the Peck & Yard owners wrote: "So, that’s a wrap from us. It’s been tough and we did our best but unfortunately it wasn’t enough.

“The hardest thing was saying goodbye to our loyal staff members. We just have to go back to the drawing board and come back stronger.

“Thank you to everyone who loved and supported Peck and Yard. It truly has meant the world to us. We’re motivated to come back bigger and stronger. Peck & Yard signing out.

Though the chicken concept has now sadly come to an end, owner Bovies Chee told the Manchester Evening News that they will be retaining the tenancy and hopefully coming back with a new Japanese food concept in the future. He also said part of the reason for the closure was the rising cost of electricity and food costs.

Chee said: “We’ve always been a reasonably priced place, and because we always cook fresh, that’s why it's not sustainable any more. As we have many ingredients, it’s not doable, the prices have gone crazy.

“We said on Instagram that we’re done with Peck & Yard for good, but we’re trying to come up with something else for the future. We’ll definitely come back in some form in perhaps a year’s time.”
