Westbury-on-Trym pub restaurant The White Horse has reopened after being closed for several weeks. The pub, popular for its Sunday lunches and quality food, has been taken on by an experienced management team that runs one of Bristol’s oldest pubs, Ye Shakespeare.
The new team also helped to establish popular Bristol restaurants including The Mint Room in Clifton and 4,500 Miles From Delhi on the city centre. The White Horse was closed for three weeks after the previous management departed and the new Bristol-based team has retained the pub’s 14 existing staff including the chefs.
The new team says it will continue to concentrate on high quality food for the community. Srinivas Murthy, who leads the new management team, has plenty of plans for the pub.

Mr Murthy said: “We expect to introduce some changes over time but initially we want to get The White Horse back open with the same menu as before and welcome the regular customers back. We are hoping there will be demand for us to extend opening to Tuesdays and we plan to introduce afternoon teas.
“We want to talk to customers about the food they would like to see served here. The pub dates back to the 17th century and has always been a popular place for people from Westbury, Henleaze and Clifton to come and enjoy good food in a great atmosphere.”
Dishes on the menu at the new-look White Horse include starters such as slow-cooked lamb shawarma slider with tzatziki and pickled red cabbage, and crispy squid with squid ink garlic mayonnaise. Main courses range from pork belly with crushed new potatoes, buttered greens, cider mustard sauce and spiced apple jam to ‘proper’ fish and triple-cooked chips with crushed peas and homemade tartare sauce.
