Popular bar and live music venue in Newport looking for new live-in landlord

A popular bar and music venue in Newport which was forced to close due to structural issues is looking for a new landlord.

The bar, which was most recently known as Riverside Sports Bar and Kitchen, and previously known as Riverside Tavern, on Clarence Place, Newport, closed in March 2020 when the pandemic forced businesses to shut, and failed to reopen in August that year when hospitality businesses welcomed back customers after the first lockdown.

At the time the pub's owners said they were unable to reopen due to a host of issues in its premises, including water damage, a fallen ceiling and flooded kitchens. At the time the pub had undergone renovations and its owners said they were "sad" not to be able to share them with customers.

Despite rumours that it would reopen, the pub, has remained closed ever since, and there is little activity at the site today.

But it appears hope might be on the horizon, as an advert online online has indicated the pub is looking for a new live-in landlord.

It could be the ideal opportunity if you're looking to run a pub (Stonegate Pub Partners)

Stonegate Pub Partners are seeking an "experienced publican with a passion for live sports and music" to provide a "substantial pub food menu to draw in additional trade" at the bar, which can accommodate 250 people and has ten screens for live sport, raised seating areas with a DJ booth and an area for live bands and entertainment, and a full kitchen.

It is listed as having a potential turnover of £436,000 per annum and a guide rent of £22,000 a year. Anyone interested in taking over the running of the pub is advised that around £10,500 would be required as an initial investment.

There's also the potential to be a live-in landlord, as the pub boasts a three-bedroom private accommodation "ideal for a family."
