Popular bakery Friends in Knead reveals plans to open permanent Cardiff arcade shop

Cardiff bakery Friends in Knead has announced that the pop-up shop it opened in one of the city's historic arcades last year is to become permanent.

The hugely popular artisan bakery - which also has shops in Roath and Barry - opened in Castle Arcade in September 2021 on a temporary basis.

However, the city centre site has proved so popular that owners have announced it will be a permanent fixture.

In a post on Instagram, the business said that it had been "a fab few months in our little slice of Cardiff" and that they "couldn’t imagine handing back the keys."

The bakery set up shop in the unit previously occupied by Kolibri Beauty Salon, and offer a range of classic cakes and pastries, as well as a range of takeaway savoury items.

The bakery has proved incredibly popular since it opened its first site in an old car garage in the heart of Roath in 2019. It now has three permenant shops and can also be found at markets across the city.

Selling fresh bread and a range of sweet treats, they regularly have customers queuing out the door, while some of their signature items - such as their filled doughnuts - frequently sell out before midday, with lockdown bringing in more customers than ever.

Castle Arcade is already home to a number of eclectic independent stores, including Portuguese bakery Nata and Co, bar Gin and Juice, and Barker’s Tea Rooms sister café Coffee Barker’s.

Their full Instagram post announcing the news read: "Some exciting Sunday morning news- our lovely pop up at Castle Arcade has just been made permanent!

"It’s been a fab few months in our little slice of Cardiff so we couldn’t imagine handing back the keys. Thanks to everyone for all your support over the past few months, it meant the world.

"As we’re sticking around we’ll be expanding our savouries across the sites for lunchtime visitors, keep your eyes peeled for new item launches & more exciting news to come"
