Popular village shop to change hands after 38 years as owners retire

A family-run Ayrshire village shop is set to change hands after 38 years in business.

Pete's KeyStore, previously Pete's convenience store, has been a fixture in Main Street, Dreghorn since 1984.

Now owners, married couple Peter Singh and Pam Kaur, are ready to ring the tills for the last time after opting to retire.

The popular pair are passing the baton on to independent convenience store group One O One.

Announcing the news to customers on their Facebook page, the duo said: "Our family have had the privilege of serving the people of Dreghorn since 1984 and the time has finally come for us to retire from our shop.

"We'd like to take this opportunity to thank those who have supported us for all this time. Firstly, our five children (you'll have seen them working in the shop over the years), who have been our reason for working so hard for so long.

"To all our team members, past and present, for their effort and dedication. We couldn't have done this without you.

"We would also like to thank all our suppliers, delivery drivers and all the team at Keystore for all your efforts over the years.

"Most importantly, we want to thank you. Each customer who has supported us, and seen us through many changes and many decades.. Thank you for sticking with us, for keeping our lives interesting and for putting up with Pete's corny jokes!

"We are pleased to confirm that we have chosen to entrust the future of the business to One O One Convenience Stores, who will continue to provide quality services to you whilst ensuring job security for our current team. We are sure that you'll support them as you have done us."

"More information will be shared on exact dates in the coming weeks, and in the meantime, we'll be here and ready to welcome you as we have done for the last 38 years.

"We look forward to seeing you on the other side of the counter very soon."

Pete and Pam also posted a statement from One O One area manager Gavin Brown, which read: "As a second-generation family business, One O One is delighted to be able to pick up the baton from Pete & Pam who have served the local community for so many years.

"We will strive to continue this good work, protecting the essential services the community relies on such as Post Office, Bill Payment and Lottery services, as well as looking to provide all your favourite products at great value, all day every day.

"We hope that the local community will continue to shop local, and we look forward to bringing some exiting new initiative such as home delivery in the near future.

"The store team will all come across to work with One O One, and we will be recruiting for new roles - please reach out to us on one-o-one.co.uk/careers "
