Popular Ayrshire burger joint pulling down the shutters as rising costs take their toll

A popular North Ayrshire restaurant is closing its doors as the cost-of-living crisis begins to take its toll on small businesses.

Nancy's Kitchen in Irvine announced this afternoon that it is pulling down the shutters.

The busy Montgomery Street eaterie cited rising costs as the main reason for the decision to call it a day.

Customers can enjoy one last hurrah at the venue this weekend with the burger joint's owners confirming prices would drop back down to what they were pre-Covid.

A statement released on the Nancy's Kitchen Facebook page reads: "We are closing down!

"It’s a difficult post to write but due to the rising costs, we too, along with many others, have made the decision to draw things to a close.

"We are going to be open Friday, Saturday, Sunday this weekend. Back to pre-Covid prices (shop order or phone in).

"Tango ice blast going out the door, £3.50 for a large £2.50 regular and £1.50 kids.

"Card machine was playing havoc last Sunday so where possible bring other means of payment.

"Once the stock is gone, it’s gone. Open Friday from 10.30am till 8pm. Saturday and Sunday to the final close of the doors will be 9.30am till 8pm stock permitting.

"Many thanks to all of our lovely customers and many friends that have been made along the way."

The statement has attracted dozens of engagements and a stack of comments from people disappointed to hear the news.

One poster replied: "Ach, that’s rubbish. Mine and kids favourite stop-off when in Irvine. Completely understand. No idea how small business can keep going. Very sad though."

Another reply reads: "Absolutely gutted but completely understand. Good luck and best wishes to you all."

Businesses are worried about the future as they face being hit with sky-high energy bills.

Brownings the Bakers in Kilmarnock laid bare to the SNP's Westminster group leader Ian Blackford the costs they are expecting – and told how they were offered a new deal £13,000 a week more expensive than what they currently shell out.
