Popstar Mabel shares tips on coping with anxiety as she appears on The One Show

Popstar Mabel discussed how she copes with anxiety as she appeared on The One Show . The singer appeared on the show to talk about her second album, About Last Night, which dropped today (Friday, July 15).

Co-presenter Alex Jones asked the singer about her struggles with anxiety, highlighting the amount of young people who are struggling with mental issues, especially after the pandemic. She asked: “What would be your advice, then, to those that are struggling?”

Mabel, 26, said: "It’s something I can definitely relate to. I think a really great tool for me is reminding myself to be present. So things like what am I hearing right now, what can I see, what can I smell - that will really like bring you back in to the moment.”

The star, who is the daughter of singer Neneh Cherry, added: “I think that anxiety is sort of triggered by either a thing that has happened or things that might happen. So, it’s about being present, I think”.

Co-presenter Ronan Keating then went on to ask Mabel: “Did being in lockdown inspire the songs and the lyrics and the themes?”. The “Don’t Call Me Up” singer responded: “Definitely, it’s different to my last album.

"And, you know, it takes you on a journey and that is because I wanted to write about being able to be out, and seeing your friends and dancing and all the things that we couldn’t do, during lockdown that sometimes maybe we take for granted.” She described the album as "a night out from beginning to end, a conceptual album".

Ronan then asked Mabel: “Your music helps a lot of people. Does the process of writing, help you?"

Mabel replied: “Definitely. It’s journaling, I think. Sometimes, I think I can sing things better than I can say them.”
