As soon as the Louisiana fast-food chain Popeyes became aware of this game's locale, it could not miss the opportunity to participate in this huge event, as New Orleans is the restaurant's birthplace.

The New Popeyes x Tequila Don Julio Reposado Flavored Concha Chicken Sandwich, Louisiana Garlic 3-Piece Wings, and Spicy Strawberry Hibiscus Flavored Lemonade Mocktail will be part of the Super Bowl celebrations.

Popeyes teases an exciting collaboration announcement for the Super Bowl LIX

From its humble beginnings as a small fried chicken joint in New Orleans in 1972 to now having over 3,800 restaurants worldwide, Popeyes has become a go-to for spicy fried chicken thanks to its Louisiana-style cooking with Cajun and Creole flavors.

Few people can resist Popeyes' Spicy Chicken Sandwich, Classic Wings, Popcorn Shrimp, and, of course, its juicy and extra crispy Signature Chicken combos. Let's also not forget about its authentic homestyle Southern sides, including Cajun Fries, Homestyle Mac & Cheese, and warm buttery Biscuits.

Popeyes declared itself the "Official Wing for Watching Football" on its Instagram in October. Since then, it has formulated an entire marketing campaign around football and the upcoming Super Bowl, making multiple posts relating its wings to the exciting NFL event.

On Jan. 23, Popeyes teased a collaboration with Don Julio Tequila by posting a teaser video on its Instagram account featuring a DJ playing Latin music, Don Julio Tequila bottles, black boxes with both brand names printed on them, and the caption, "The kitchen is heating up for the big game. Party starts 1.31.25."

Popeyes, Don Julio, and NFL fans flocked to social media to express their thoughts on the upcoming collaboration, and they didn't hold back in the comments section.

Some users were excited about the partnership, with comments like, "The collab you didn't realize we needed!!" and "My two favorite things!"

However, some netizens were not as fond of the partnership, finding it racist and stereotypical.

One user commented, "This feels like a microaggression. Who approved this mess?"

Another user commented, "This definitely has a racist vibe to it."

Popeyes joins forces with Don Julio Tequila to create a fusion Super Bowl collaboration

This collaboration might seem mismatched since Popeyes is a fast-food restaurant and Don Julio Tequila ( (DEO) ) is a luxury Mexican liquor brand. Still, despite the odd pairing, both brands formulated a creative way to mix the two.

More Retail News:

The new collaboration menu is headlined by the Popeyes x Tequila Don Julio Reposado Flavored Concha Chicken Sandwich, which consists of a chicken breast marinated in reposado tequila, then fried in Popeyes' crunchy buttermilk breading, and topped with a tequila lime slaw, spicy spread, and barrel-cured pickle. All sandwiched between a sweet and buttery concha roll, a traditional Mexican sweet bread roll with a crunchy topping that looks like a sea shell, which is the English word for "concha."

Other new menu items in the collaboration include the Popeyes x Tequila Don Julio Reposado Flavored Louisiana Garlic 3-Piece Wings with a specialty sauce and a Spicy Strawberry Hibiscus Flavored Lemonade Mocktail to wash it all down.

The new items from the Popeyes x Tequila Don Julio Reposado menu will be available for one day only on Jan. 31 at select Popeyes restaurant locations. These locations include New York City, Miami, New Orleans, and the hometowns of both Super Bowl teams, Philadelphia and Kansas City.

However, the Super Bowl's host city will get to enjoy the new menu lineup for longer from Jan. 31 until Feb. 9, exclusively at the Popeyes New Orleans flagship restaurant on Canal Street while supplies last.

Only people over 21 will be able to enjoy the new menu items containing Don Julio Tequila. The exact select restaurant location that will carry the Popeyes x Tequila Don Julio Reposado new menu can be found on Popeyes' online website.
