Pope Francis is set to be dispatched from the Gemelli Hospital in Rome on Sunday, and plans to make his first public appearance in five weeks via a blessing from his hospital window.
The Vatican stated that while Francis was not expected to speak a prayer on Sunday due to his ongoing recovery process, he is set to make a greeting.
Head of Gemelli Hospital’s medical team treating Francis, Doctor Sergio Alfieri, said to the media that Pope Francis’ hospital dispatch is “good news”.
“The good news the world and everyone is waiting for is that tomorrow the Holy Father will be discharged,” Alfieri said.
“Tomorrow he will return to Santa Marta.”

However, Alfieri also stated that it would take “a lot of time” for Francis’ body to properly heal, and has prescribed him a two-month rest and recovery period.
The Vatican also said that Pope Francis needs to “relearn how to speak” following his health issues, per ABC.
“The pope is doing very well, but high-flow oxygen dries everything out,” said the head of Francis’ doctrinal office, Cardinal Victor Manuel Fernadez.
The 88-year-old was first admitted to the hospital on February 14 after suffering from a serious respiratory infection, leading to double pneumonia.
Since then the Pope has only been seen once in a photo published by The Vatican in early March, where he is seen praying in the hospital’s chapel.

Francis has been prone to lung infections due to the removal of part of his lung when he was 21, and his experience with pleurisy as a child.
This hospitalisation period was the most serious health crisis the Pope has ever experienced, and also marks the longest time he has been out of public since his pontification back in 2013.
