Pope Francis Hospitalized For Health Concerns

Pope Francis Pope Francis holds a weekly audience at the Vatican

Breaking news this morning as Pope Francis was hospitalized overnight but has since returned to the Vatican. The 87-year-old pontiff, who has previously had part of his lung removed, appeared frail during his general audience at the Vatican. He mentioned having a cold at the start of the audience and had a colleague read his address.

Following the general audience, Pope Francis was taken to Gemelli Hospital on Tiber Island for diagnostic tests. The Vatican confirmed that he underwent tests and was then discharged back to the Vatican promptly. While the specific nature of the tests has not been disclosed, it is known that the Pope has been battling a cold recently.

On Sunday, Pope Francis conducted his usual audience at St. Peter's Square, but on Monday, he canceled all engagements due to flu-like symptoms. Tuesday appeared to be a regular day for the Pope, and on Wednesday, he met with Armenian bishops before the general audience.

It remains uncertain whether the Pope's recent health issues are merely seasonal or indicative of a more serious underlying condition. His medical history, including the partial lung removal, adds complexity to any health concerns he may face. The Vatican has not provided further details on the Pope's current health status beyond the confirmation of the hospital visit and subsequent return to the Vatican.
