Pope Francis, 88, remains hospitalized for a fourth day due to a respiratory tract infection, raising concerns about his upcoming commitments. The Vatican spokesperson reported that the Pope had breakfast and read newspapers on Monday morning while continuing his prescribed drug therapies. His medical condition is described as 'fair,' and a detailed update on his health is expected later in the day.

The Pope was admitted to Gemelli hospital in Rome after his bronchitis worsened following a weeklong battle. Doctors diagnosed him with a respiratory tract infection and advised 'absolute rest' along with unspecified drug treatments. Despite his age and health challenges, Pope Francis is known for his tireless work ethic.

Having had part of one lung removed earlier in life due to a pulmonary infection, the Pope's health has become increasingly fragile. There is no indication of how long his current hospital stay might last. In a previous instance of illness in 2023, he left the hospital after three days without disclosing the urgency of his admission.

Although the Holy See has only confirmed canceled appointments through Monday, the Pope's attendance at future events remains uncertain. His next scheduled engagement is the weekly general audience on Wednesday, followed by the ordination of deacons on Sunday as part of Holy Year celebrations. While his participation in these events is in doubt, they are still listed on the official Vatican schedule.

During his absence from the Jubilee Mass for artists on Sunday, a cardinal stood in for him. The Pope's health condition continues to be monitored closely, with updates expected as his hospitalization progresses.
