Pope Francis Continues Treatment For Pneumonia

Pope Francis reacts

Pope Francis, 88, is currently undergoing treatment for pneumonia while sitting in an armchair, as confirmed by a Vatican source on Wednesday. He continues to receive a consistent flow of oxygen, with a medical update expected later in the day. The Vatican stated that the pontiff remains in a critical but stable condition, with no acute respiratory episodes reported. Pope Francis had a scheduled CT scan to monitor his pneumonia.

Vatican spokesperson Matteo Bruni mentioned that the pope's prognosis remains guarded, and he received the Eucharist on Tuesday morning before resuming his work. Despite being in critical condition, the pope has been showing signs of improvement, resting well and being in good humor.

Concerns were raised about the pope's health when he was admitted to a clinic in Rome over a week ago for a respiratory tract infection, which was later diagnosed as pneumonia affecting both lungs. The Vatican assured that the mild kidney issues Francis is facing do not raise concerns and that his oxygen therapy is ongoing with slightly reduced flows.

Despite his health challenges, Pope Francis has been actively engaging with his duties, meeting with senior Vatican officials and receiving prayers and well-wishes from faith leaders and worshippers worldwide. His family, including his 93-year-old cousin, expressed concern for his health and hoped for a speedy recovery.

Medical experts have been closely monitoring the pope's condition, particularly his kidney health, which can be affected by infections like pneumonia. Pope Francis has a history of respiratory infections, having undergone surgeries in the past, but has shown resilience and determination in his recovery.

Visitors, including Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, have met with the pope during his hospitalization, sharing moments of humor and support. Prayers and well-wishes continue to pour in for Pope Francis from various leaders and individuals around the world, emphasizing the global concern and solidarity for his health.
